For years, I didn't understand the yard sale obsession. Then, my family and I relocated to a new area. I had no job, but I had a home that I wanted to decorate. So, I began to check out some local sales. At first, I would pull the car over and get out. I would walk towards the sale area, and from about 4 feet away, I would determine that there was only junk at this sale. I would turn and head back to the car. After doing this for a couple of weeks, I changed my shopping strategy. I began to look for a diamond in the rough. I realized that it may not be the Pottery Barn but with a little creativity this "junk" could be redesigned into something beautiful and fun. This fit our family's lifestyle perfectly. I have always wanted our home to be welcoming and comfortable and at the same time beautiful.
Repurposing my yard sale finds became a passion. On Friday, I would plan my route. Saturday mornings, my husband (who lovingly supported me) and I would get up early and check out the sales. It wasn't long before Magpie Musings East was born. Magpie's love to collect objects. Just like them, I am drawn to furniture, beautiful glass objects and Fiestaware.
